Some 100 PKR divisions will host a dinner in support of PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali defending his position in the party polls.
According to K Vasantha Kumar, who is also running for the party's vice-presidency, the dinner will be held at Dewan Hamzah in Klang on Aug 25, and will be attended by Azmin himself.
"To date, over 100 division chiefs from the Federal Territory, Selangor, and other states, have confirmed attendance to the event, in support of Azmin.
"I hope the numbers will go up," he said adding that he hopes the attendance will surpass 1,000.
"Apart from division chiefs, other senior party leaders like vice-president Tian Chua, Wanita chief Zuraida Kamaruddin and central leaders will also be present," he added.
Vasantha Kumar said the event is aimed at highlighting Azmin's vision and mission to PKR leaders, especially those from the Indian community.
He also stressed that the party's new status as part of the government coalition warrants a better leadership line-up.
"PKR used to be the opposition. Now we are in the government."Therefore, I believe we have to choose the best leadership line-up to complement with the new party president, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim," he said.
The race for the party's No 2 position is expected to heat up this time around, as incumbent Azmin, who is the Economic Affairs Minister, faces PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli.
Vasantha Kumar said that he was a fierce advocate of the Anwar-Azmin combo, adding that what the party needs now is loyalty to leadership, not a strategic leadership.
Rafizi is often labelled among PKR members as a strategic expert, while Azmin is known for his loyalty to Anwar.
