DAP's Kerk Chee Yee has been appointed as the youngest executive council member in the new Pakatan Harapan Malacca government.
Chee Yee, who has a background in economics and finance, will turn 26 this year.
He was sworn in at Istana Seri Negeri in Malacca this morning, together with nine other exco members.
Chee Yee is the son of Kerk Kim Hock, the former DAP secretary-general and Malacca DAP stalwart. Kim Hock passed away last year due to an illness.
Chee Yee said he hoped more young people can get involved in government.
"Like I have always said, we should get more young people to complement the leadership of Harapan and government of the day.
"I do encourage more young people to be involved in the whole process of nation-building.
"We need a lot of effort, everybody needs to step forward," he told Malaysiakini after the swearing in.
The new exco line-up comprises five from DAP, two each from Bersatu and PKR, and one from Amanah.
This excludes Malacca Chief Minister Adly Zahari, who is from Amanah.
In the May 9 general election, DAP won eight seats, PKR captures three while Amanah and Bersatu bagged two seats respectively in the Malacca state assembly.
Their exact portfolio will only be revealed later.
The exco list is as follows:

- Mohd Rafiq Nzaizamohideen (Paya Rumput)
- Nor Fendi Ahmad (Telok Mas)
- Ginie Lim Siew Lin (Machap Jaya)
