Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali (above) has promised to solve the state's water woes through the ongoing but delayed water supply reconstruction plan, saying that the federal government was now “a friend”.
“Now, the energy, green technology and water ministry is our friend, Putrajaya is also our friend,” said Azmin during a press conference this morning to announce the new Selangor exco line-up.
He promised that the water supply issue in Selangor would be solved in a short time now that Pakatan Harapan had assumed the seat of the federal government.
“This is definitely an important agenda of mine and I will seek agreement from Putrajaya in order to solve the water supply reconstruction plan in Selangor,” he said.
Frequent water supply interruptions in Selangor before the recent general election had caused the then BN federal government and Selangor government to point fingers at each other.
Former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak then outlined five weaknesses in the Pakatan Harapan-governed Selangor with the water woes topping the list.
Azmin, however, pointed out that Selangor did not have an issue with inadequate treated water supply but the situation was beyond its control as it could not acquire Syarikat Pengeluaran Air Sungai Selangor Sdn Bhd (Splash) from the federal government due to unfavourable terms.
